Chullora Public School is committed to improving student learning outcomes. As a result, our Kindergarten teachers are being trained in L3 (Language, Learning and Literacy).
L3 is a research-based intervention program that assists students to significantly improve their literacy skills. Current research indicates that the quality of students' transition into literacy is a major predictor of their later academic achievement (Barrett & Hammond, 2008; Catts & Kamhi, 2005).
Within an L3 classroom, students receive daily explicit literacy instruction by L3 trained teachers. Students are taught to read and write in groups of 3 to allow teachers to make moment by moment decisions on how students are responding to learning.
In order to support the implementation of L3, we have purchased $10,000 worth of resources including a vast selection of books for each classroom.
